School Board
As an Independent Public School, O’Connor Primary School is required to have a School Board of school parents, staff and community representatives. The School Board held its first meeting at the end of Term One, 2011.
The Principal remains responsible for the educational leadership, operation and management of the school. To maximise the input of the School Board in developing school policies, the Principal will seek advice and receive recommendations from the School Board. To enable the School Board to function effectively, the Principal will report regularly to the School Board on the school’s progress.
OPS’s performance as an Independent School was reviewed by an independent panel in 2020 (which occurs triannually). The review is available to the public. A school business plan is ratified by the board every three years. The current plan and review can be accessed below. The Education Act and regulations pertaining to the act which applies to the current School Council will govern the running of the School Board.
The School Board’s role is to provide strategic guidance and monitoring of OPS’s performance and to ‘increase the flexibility and autonomy of the school to enhance the students’ performance and learning environment.’

The School Board will assist the Principal in:
- Creating a Delivery and Performance Agreement which will set out the expectations of the School and will be signed by the Director General of Education.
- Creating a School Business Plan
- Determining the school’s budget, key performance indictors and measurements for success measuring the school’s performance
- Developing processes to review the satisfaction level of parents staff and students and report the results in the Annual Report.
