As Year 6 is now the final year of primary school there will be some exciting and busy times ahead. It will be a fun-filled, and some times chaotic, year full of hard work and many activities. The Year 6s can look forward to camp, interschool sports and lightning carnivals, graduation, end of year fun day and many more activities and special events. Toward the end of the year students will participate in many activities to prepare them for high school. We hope to see parents at all the events.

For all information regarding the transition to high school please visit the Transition page.

Clubs Program - Students in Years 4 to 6 participate in a clubs program every Friday afternoon between 1.50pm and 2.40pm. The aim of the clubs program is to provide an opportunity for students to develop team work, communication skills and self-esteem. There are a variety of clubs available to students and a small fee of $15 per year helps to provide consumables and other equipment that may be needed. Please send the money to the classroom teacher as soon as possible.

iPad Program for Year 6 students
The iPad progam started in 2015 when the children were in Year 3. We have choosen Year 3 as this year level represents smaller class numbers before moving into middle schooling. As the children enter Year 4, the learning will be extended and children will have the opportunity to learn from a wider range of sources, explore a wider range of technologies and show deeper reflection on their learning and goal alignment. The children will use the selected device for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. A list of reccomended apps is included for parent information.
Please see this short video on the importance of an iPad program.

A parent agreement must be signed so that student iPads can be added to the school network. Please return to school as soon as possible.

For purchase options of iPads please visit out iPad information page.

Graduation is scheduled for Tuesday 12th December 2017 at 9am in the Undercover Area. The normal process is that a formal Graduation ceremony is held at the school in the morning at 9am which family members are invited to attend. At this ceremony, students will receive their Graduation Certificate and their Semester Two Report. A morning tea is held after this event at approximately 103am, kindly caterred for by the P&C. That evening, at 6pm, students are invited to attend a Dinner Dance. This is generally held in the Undercover Area. Students have a meal and a DJ supplies the music for them to dance to. This is a student’s only event. Staff will be in attendance to supervise. Students will be invited to this event and the invitation is dependent upon appropriate behaviour, attendance and work completion in class.

The theme for the dinner dance will be decided by the students. This year's theme will be announced in Term 4. It is not intended for students to get too dressed up but a smart casual dress standard should be followed. We have spoken to the students about suitable attire. Students will be invited to this event and the invitation is dependent upon appropriate behaviour, attendance and work completion in class. The cost for the evening is $25 per student. Cash to the front office only which is payable in Term 4. (Please do not use the school bank details)
Year 6 Dinner Dance money is given directly to the P&C who cater for the event.

A Graduation Keepsake is available for purchase by parents. Order forms will be sent home in September/October.

Children are free to choose to participate in this activity and to make it easier for parents, We are coordinating the purchase of a Memory Ball (soccer or football) or Memory Bear. They are high quality and come with a special pen enabling children to commemorate your children’s primary school education.

The bear is $20 and the balls are $15. Please fill in the eform and pay in Term 4. Downloadable form if needed.

Room 24 - Mr Luke Scuderi

About the teacher -

Hello, my name is Luke Scuderi and I will be teaching in room 24 this year.  I have been at O’Connor Primary school for two years now and have thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching  here. I look forward to guiding and teaching vital skills to my Year 6 students this year. I believe that every child deserves a strong quality education where all their individual needs are met and they are set up for their future. This is very important in a Year 6 classroom where they will be transitioning to high school the following year.

I am involved with sports in the community and am currently playing soccer in Kalgoorlie, a sport which I love to play.   When time permits I enjoy my hobbies which include bike riding, table top war gaming, painting miniatures and watching movies.

Parents and guardians are always welcome in my classroom. If you ever need to meet with me feel free to schedule a meeting time.

Parent/teacher meetings can be arranged by phoning or emailing the school to make an appointment.
