Our School - School Chaplain

What is a School Chaplain? And why am I here?

O’Connor Primary School believes that every child has the right to feel safe and happy at school.  A School Chaplain doesn’t teach a class, so they have time to listen to kids tell their stories, or to play a game together to give them a bit of extra support when they need it. We all have moments when we just want someone to talk to. It might be that you just attended a family wedding and you want to share your excitement, or maybe you’re happy that you had the chance to meet your favourite football player on the weekend. There’s other times when you or a family member has been sick or is feeling sad or worried about something, and that’s a good time to have a chat with your Chaplain too.

As an In-School Chaplain, what do I do?

I am here to focus on the well-being of students, parents and teachers.

School Chaplains are helping make a real difference in people's lives.
* I provide support and care for staff, students and families.
* I am here to walk alongside you. I am here to listen to you and the things that concern you.
* I believe that when students are heard and their problems addressed (no matter how small or insignificant we think it might be), they behave and perform better in class.
* I will be with you when words fail and all you can do is cry & I will rejoice with you when you are happy again.
* I am here to encourage you and help you set goals. It's my hope to see you achieve the goals you set.
* I am here to help you find solutions and be with you as you seek meaning, purpose and hope on the journey of life.

How do you get in touch with me?
If you see me around the school, please do not hesitate to come and say hello to me.
If you would like to have a private chat with me, you can: tell me in person; tell your teacher; or you can also write your name and room number (contact number for parents) on the self-referral slips located at the front office.

I am looking forward to meeting you.
